This is a very different society than it was during the days of "free love," "love-ins" the Viet Nam war and so on. The generation that came of age in the 1965 to 1975 era is now coming into power in virtually every facet of life in this country -- industry, religion and politics. As a society we have matured in some ways since those days.

Also every generation of parents is "so hard on young people today" from the point of view of the young people.

IMHO the only difference today is that possibly this is the first time in many generations that we have a condition in which generally speaking the parents, when they were kids, actually were more "wild and crazy" than the young people are today.
