Siemens to merge U.S. networking activities -paper
12:25 p.m. Aug 28, 1999 Eastern
FRANKFURT, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Germany's Siemens AG (SIEG.F) will combine its integrated telephone and data networking activities, transferring their headquarters to Boston in the United States from Munich, daily Die Welt reported on Saturday.

A Siemens spokesman told the paper the new company operating under U.S. law would be set up on October 1.

The new activities would include Uniphere Solutions Inc, a company Siemens set up earlier this year for its U.S. network operations, Die Welt reported.

The paper said the move was a reaction to the recent collapse of a planned joint venture between Siemens and U.S partner 3Com (COMS.O) to make equipment handling voice calls on data and video telecoms networks.

The U.S. subsidiary, with annual sales of more than $200 million and 500 employees, would include all of Siemens' U.S. data and Internet protocol (IP) operations.
