Well, I got 22%, and I haven't often been accused of conservatism. I don't think anyone reading posts by Ish or JFQ would think they were social conservatives, just guys who have doubts about what Government does with their money. There's a difference.
Besides, just because people were wild and crazy doesn't mean that they are.
I know the old answer of growing more conservative as we get older.. sowing wild oats, etc.. but I don't buy it.. A person carries IMO, their basic values from their late teens. Maybe they done all this stuff then. Maybe they done really Nasty stuff then and got away with it.. And they are fine citizens now.
There wasn't any really nasty stuff on there, was there? Just good ol' sex and drugs and rock and roll, for the most part. Very little about fraud, con games, serious crimes, all the other good stuff that really nasty folk get up to.
We don't do that stuff anymore because we can't. Our bodies are no longer resilient enough to allow alcohol or drugs on that scale, sex is no longer as safe or as available (to us, anyway) as it was then, and we have kids learning from our example. Not that our kids won't do wild stuff, but we don't need to start them any younger than what is natural.
And yes, most of us are pretty good citizens. What would make you think we aren't? |
