Indeed. That is the principal factor that has allowed USR to dominate the modem industry, cleaning house against the likes of Hayes and Motorola. Control over both ends of the connection is a powerful tool, further evidenced by the rapid depolyment of x2 versus the patchwork quilt approach used by the Rockwell consortium. That strength certainly was not lost on 3Com.
