why would you think that the quotes from the (browser-based, yes?) Island book would be more up to date than your L2 display? How could you tell?

It's obvious when it's in that situation. I can see where the best bid/ask are at on the ISLD book (yes, running as an applet from the browser - applets are not all slow, especially on a PII 400) and then some seconds later the level II catches up. Maybe it's because I have multiple level II displays going (3) along with charts and market minder windows. There are a lot more data updates going into a level II display than the ISLD book. In any case, I've found that the ISLD book viewer and Datek Streamer rarely lag the market. When I enter orders on ISLD they appear on the ISLD book before they appear on my level II.
