I had posted my belief that embedded chips could not have a Y2K problem if they are at the bottom of the ocean or encased in concrete because they must have some way to reset the date/year in case of a power failure

Just wanted to pipe in here and make a quick comment.

Any engineer, who encased an embedded system in concrete or in Davy Jone's locker, without providing the means to electronically update or alter its data, should be fired and have his retirement rescinded.

And furthermore, having such a system integrated as a "critical system" that would be a "show stopper", merits a swift pummeling behind the toolshed.

It just that simple, IMO. And one of the reasons I believe that God and good sense will prevent some of the harder to reach Embedded systems from halting operations.

Regards,

Ron
