Picking on Applied Materials:

The Dow was down 127 yesterday, and the S&P 500 closed below 1,365. Speculative stocks continue mostly to be the best performers.

I remain bearish. I am going to bet on a decline in Applied Materials (AMAT) and tighten some stops.

Why pick on Applied Materials, the world's largest maker of semiconductor-manufacturing equipment? On Wednesday, the stock gapped higher, but closed lower. When Applied Materials has done this in the past at a time when the stock had been relatively strong in the preceding week (as defined by being up more than 9% over any two-day period in the preceding week), it has been down seven out of nine times over the following week. I'm looking for a decline to at least $63.
