Joan, you are, yourself, a liberal ~ such, at least, is the my perception, and the publicly posted perception of others on the thread. Thus, you cannot really know what it's like to be discriminated against in academia for being a conservative. Political liberals are most intolerant of political conservatives. The fact that I admire Reagan, Churchill and Margaret Thatcher would make me an idiot to the college professors I know, so I keep my mouth shut when they talk about politics, in order not to lose the pleasure of talking about other things with them.

It is probably vice versa, of course, intolerance to "different" ideas seems to be universal.
