RE: <why shouldn't Intel support SDRAM?>

I think that it would be wise for Intel to support sdram in the near term so that none of their shipments of Micros or chip sets could be hurt by either high prices or unavailability of Rambus drams. Intel's new products Coppermine/Camino are hitting the market at a very tender time which means there can't be any screwups or OEMs will miss the Christmas season which would be a disaster especially if everyone is building their machines so that only Rambus can be used. When Intel launches a new generation it goes to high volume immediately and it is not clear that dram makers will be ready to ship in sufficient volume and at reasonable prices.

However, Intel has maintained steadfastly that they would only give grade A support to Rambus until a few weeks ago when they issued a mysterious statement that they were "evaluating" sdram support. Supposedly everything will be made clear at IDF which starts Tuesday.
