Re: Alcatel's Lead in ADSL

"One of the events, IMO, that has taken some of the steam and the hot topickry out of this sector was the initial award by the Joint Procurement Council (the four RBOCs awarding their RFP) to ALA for the first large purchasing agreement..."

"Alcatel's starting building its lead in the ADSL arena with its selection as the established vendor for the Joint Procurement Consortium (JPC) of Ameritech, BellSouth, Pacific Bell, and Southwestern Bell," said RHK Senior Analyst Claude Romans, who authored the "Loop Access Systems: Technology and Markets" report." Frank,
Gee I missed that event you mentioned. Went to their website, and sure enough, you were right. I let an important announcement get by me. I have to re-think this whole Alcatel(symbol:ALA) thing.

But can a French company be competitive with hot leading edge US companies? The latest Prime Minister is a socialist. And I believe they just passed a maximum 35 hour work week law. Plus, I imagine the taxes must be horrendous. These thoughts have always kind of steered me away from ALA. But I suppose they do have the advantage of a weak Euro that doesn't appear to be getting stronger anytime soon. And a high unemployment rate.

But the devil is in the details. And now that you pointed out their clear lead in ADSL, via that JPC award, I need to dig into the facts before I go making judgements.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
