First, most were conformists in terms of public display, and worshipped in Anglican churches. Second, Deism is a distinct theological position, holding that there is a God, but that once He created the universe, He refrained from supernatural intervention. Thus, one might, as a Deist, sincerely thank God for the bounties of this world, without intending particular thanks. Thus, it seems to qualify as religious to me....
