BIOS will display system alerts found during Power-On Self-Test (POST) process performed when system is turned on. Errors reported include chassis intrusion, memory errors, PnP configuration error, SMART hard drive error if present
Instrumented for DMI access to all system settings, requires BIOS password to change settings
Two layers of password protection, BIOS "settings" password prevents system settings from being changed either locally or remotely via DMI unless password is entered. BIOS "system" password also locks out access to any BIOS settings.
Boot Device Order Selection (including, but not limited, to: HDD, floppy, CD-ROM, network)
Support for Remote BIOS flash via Dell OpenManage tools
Password-protected I/O port, floppy drive, and hard drive enable/disable options

CIM
CIM is an emerging standard that describes management data that can be used by certain management applications

Dell OpenManage client instrumentation includes a CIM property provider, which exposes a core set of asset information in the CIM format. The following attributes are instrumented in this format:

System vendor
System description
Processor type
Processor speed
Memory size
Basic input/output system (BIOS) version
BIOS date
Service tag
Asset tag

Systems Management Features and Functions
The following sections detail manageability features of Dell OptiPlex systems.
DMI Alerts
Cooling device malfunctioning or missing
Fan Speed
SMART HDD alerts

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Dell OpenManage client instrumentation supports DMI-to-SNMP mapping, which allows SNMP-based applications to browse and receive alerts from Dell clients.

Remote System Alerts
Alerts regarding system health which contain information about the system?s ID, nature of event, and the timing of these alerts.
Following is a list of the events and what triggers them:
Description Trigger Event

BIOS to load Triggered by a critical hardware failure that results in an incomplete BIOS boot, e.g. a failed or missing processor.
Case Intrusion Triggered when the door is opened.
Temperature Event Triggered when the temperature exceeds an allowable temperature.
Password Failure Triggered when the BIOS detects that a user has entered the wrong password 3 times.
Voltage Event Triggered when one or more voltages in the system goes "out of tolerance"

Security Management
DMI Alerts
Local and remote monitoring and configuration of Dell desktop and notebook PCs and workstations
Remote security-feature monitoring of multiple PCs simultaneously
Enable/disable of PC booting from local disk, remote server, or floppy drive
Remote reboot capability to activate new configuration
Property Ownership Tag
Chassis Intrusion Alert
DMI System Configuration Change Alert (change in #processors, #hard drives, HDD free space below user-defined threshold, total amount of RAM changes)
Processor serial number changed
Processor type changed

Remote System Alerts
Enhanced Network Keepalive signals: in a low-power state the network controller sends out packets which contain the system's ID as well as an indication of how often it has been configured to send out this keepalive packet.
Remote alerting support for chassis intrusion switch

Configuration Management
BIOS configuration via DMI
DMI-instrumentation to access system BIOS information and settings
Remote Wake Up
Support for remote power-on
PXE and other network boot environments
Pre-boot environment, DHCP remote-boot through Managed PC Boot Agent (MBA); other protocols supported by MBA include PXE, BootP, NCP/IPX, and IBM RPL.
DMI Alerts
DMI alerts when hard disk drive free space is below user-defined threshold
Asset Management
DMI information
Allows access to over 500 PC attributes, providing detailed information on Dell PCs and their components
Complete inventory data?including manufacturer, model, and serial number?for system, processor, hard drive, monitor (where supported by DDC2B), and network interface controller (where supported)
Full implementation of the DMI PC System Groups
DMI 2.0 standard provides access to system information to DMI management applications
Support for attribute export to Microsoft SMS

CIM information
System data available via the natively instrumented elements mentioned previously as well as from CIM enabled Operating Systems.

Asset Info
Support for cost of ownership information on each PC
Asset Info is Dell?s implementation of the industry-standard DMI-defined Cost of Ownership (COO) MIF store and retrieve asset management data particular to each PC
