Taiwan's TWSE index gained 0.6 percent to 8099.36, its first
rise in three days. United Microelectronics Corp. led electronics
shares higher on hopes of better earnings. UMC gained 4.5 percent
to NT$81. UMC was the second most popular stock among foreigners
last week as they were net buyers of 21.6 million shares. The
company is widely expected to earn more than NT$3 a share next
year, from an estimated NT$1 this year, analysts said. |
