ASND will have a very hard time integrating operations with CSCC. The hurdle posed by the difference in east-coast/west-coast corporate cultures is not trivial. COMS will have similar problems with USRX. This is one of the major pitfalls of the Pac-Man model of corporate expansion. John Chambers alluded to this problem in a recent interview. It is no accident that CSCO tends to buy companies who's headquarters are located in the San Francisco Bay area, within a few miles of their own Silicon Valley corporate campus.

CSCO has much more to fear from Newbridge Networks (NN), the ATM leader, which is making moves to become an end-to-end supplier to the enterprise market through it's recent purchase of UB Networks. I expect that move to start showing a payoff in the next 6-12 months.
