Re daytrading controversy: I actually hesitate to post this link, because it's pretty depressing reading -- but lots of folks already know about it, and those who don't might want to be aware for whatever "lessons" it may hold... The Atlanta killer, Mark Barton, actually had his own thread here on SI for several months before his shooting-rampage -- in which he discussed his financial woes and apparently also left the clear impression that he was pretty unstable to begin with (I haven't had the heart myself to go very far back through the thread, but the most recent posters there say he seemed clearly disturbed from the get-go and in fact rejected many private offers of help). Interestingly, SI has chosen to leave the thread intact as an "object lesson."
