HealthAxis.com Launches Fortis Health Insurance Products Online; Temporary and Student Health Insurance Now Available Online
EAST NORRITON, Pa., and MILWAUKEE, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthAxis.com, the Internet's leading online insurance marketer, and Fortis Health, a leading provider of individual and small group health insurance, announced today that Fortis Health's Short Term Medical and Student Select insurance products are now available online at healthaxis.com. This marks the first time Fortis Health has offered products that can be sold entirely online and extends HealthAxis' insurance product reach to customers in 44 states.

HealthAxis.com will offer online consumers the ability to purchase Fortis Health's Short Term Medical insurance, a temporary health insurance plan covering short gaps in coverage. Additionally, HealthAxis.com will distribute Fortis Health's Student Select insurance -- an individual major medical policy designed for full-time college students who are no longer covered by a parent's plan, who attend school outside their family plan's HMO or PPO region, or who want more comprehensive coverage than most student plans provide.

Michael Ashker, President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthAxis.com said, ''We are extremely pleased to partner with Fortis Health. Today's announcement underscores our commitment to providing a broad range of high-quality insurance products to meet the needs of online customers in all significant consumer markets.''

Dave McDonough, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Fortis Health said, ''HealthAxis.com offers us a consumer friendly, cutting-edge Web site -- accessible through the Internet's most trafficked gateways.'' HealthAxis.com has exclusive distribution relationships with the Web's leading portals -- America Online, AOL.COM, Lycos, CNET and Snap!.

Regarding the newly available products, Ashker added, ''Short Term Medical and Student Select fill a real need. These high quality Fortis Health products are ideal for the Internet demographic consisting of professionals in career transition and college students who desire affordable, high quality health coverage.''

McDonough added, ''Census Bureau statistics show that during a one-year period, up to 20 million people have a one to six-month gap in insurance coverage. In addition, people ages 18-24 are the age group most likely to be uninsured and an age group most likely to be on the Internet. Many of these individuals are potential customers for Short Term Medical or Student Select.''

Under the Fortis Health/HealthAxis partnership, Fortis Health will pay HealthAxis.com, a licensed and appointed Fortis Health agent and the online subsidiary of Provident American Corporation (Nasdaq: PAMC - news), per policy compensation and provide claims processing for customers purchasing the Fortis Health products.
