This affirmation of the Starfire server's capabilities builds on its record-setting performance on major benchmarks, as well as industry- leading growth in revenue and units shipped during Q1CY99,according to IDC data. The win is indicative of the popularity of the Starfire server with Sun resellers and systems integrators --a significant portion of Sun Enterprise 10000 servers in the US are sold through the channel.
This honor also coincides with another major milestone for the Starfire system, as Sun opens a second manufacturing line to complement its existing high-end server facilities in Oregon.
Boasting impressive Q1CY99 gains and benchmark records galore, the Sun Enterprise 10000 server has racked up 1,400 orders to date. To maintain its sought-after position as the industry leader for worldwide UNIX (R) platform unit shipments,Sun plans to double its Starfire server production capacity by the close of Q4FY00 -- an aggressive expansion effort already underway at Sun's Newark (Calif.) factory, an extension to the existing Beaverton, Ore. high-end manufacturing site.
