NET-tel Selects Harris Corporation for Network Management

Business Editors/Technology Writers

WASHINGTON & MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1999--
NET-tel Communications, Inc., the nationwide, facilities-based
integrated communications provider, announced today that the company
has selected Harris Corporation's network management platform to
support NET-tel's nationwide IP/ATM backbone and integrated services
platform for Internet, data and voice applications.
In a contract totaling nearly $1 million, Harris' advanced
software technology will enable NET-tel to monitor, manage, and
control its diverse and growing network from NET-tel's Network
Operations Center (NOC) in Washington, D.C.
With a mission to offer a "one company, one solution, one
network" platform, NET-tel has built an Intelligent Network that
includes a fully redundant ATM backbone and integrated services
platform for all of its Internet data and voice applications.
"Harris' ongoing commitment to advancing network management
technology and Operational Support Software (OSS) made a real
difference in our decision making," said Jim Kenefick, CEO of NET-tel
Communications. "With Harris Network Management (HNM) technology, we
can focus our technical resources on resolving network issues, rather
than spend time identifying the source of network faults. Given our
rapid deployment, that's a real advantage for NET-tel."
HNM is an advanced network management system specifically
designed to manage complex multi-protocol, multi-vendor
telecommunications infrastructures. HNM offers NET-tel a single
network management capability for remote access to all network points,
resulting in more detailed trouble reporting information, quicker
response times, and a streamlined operational staff and budget.
Several HNM applications will be deployed including Fault Management
System (FMS) for general network status and Extended Network Manager
(ENM) for managing its switching platform.
"We are seeing the next generation of integrated communications
providers such as NET-tel focus on the convergence of data and voice,
and building complex, broadband networks to support integrated
communication solutions," said Jim Odom, vice president of network
management for Harris' Communications Products Division. "The HNM
platform has evolved to support this change in networks, and is
ideally suited for growing service providers such as NET-tel," added
Odom.
Harris Network Management is provided by Harris' Communications
Products Division (CPD), which delivers solutions to public and
private communications service providers around the world. CPD's
solutions include call center, network switching and enhanced services
products, line test and network management systems, as well as test
sets and tools.
