Singapore Government Sets Up E-C Policy Helpdesk
[24 August 1999] In its continuing efforts to make Singapore the e-commerce hub of the region, the government has announced that it is setting up an policy helpdesk to provide information on the country's policies.

Called E-Commerce Business Policy Helpdesk, the National Computer Board - the statutory agency drives computerization in the republic - will spearhead the effort, said its chief executive Michael Yap.

Speaking at a seminar titled "Mastering E-Commerce for the New Millennium," Yap said the new facility is meant to be operated as a helpdesk and not giving advice or addressing complaints.

"A trusted, clear and predictable regulatory environment is a prerequisite to the rapid take-off of e-commerce. The helpdesk will work together with local as well as international companies to overcome potential challenges in these early days of e-commerce, by clarifying related regulatory issues," said Yap.

Companies can e-mail their questions and issues to info@ec.gov.sg
