For purposes of commercial and/or legal transactions over a network, I would suggest that non-repudiation has to encompass the actual end-user and not allow "an evil user who jumped onto an existing client end-station without the original user's permission, etc." This is just too big a loophole for e-commerce purposes, since it allows a password hacking attack, or a stolen token, or even simply sitting down at an unoccupied but active terminal. PKI-loaded token systems can fend off a password hacker, but not the other two attacks.

Consequently, I don't think even VRSN or Entrust has perfected a fully effective non-repudiation system. That won't exist until biometric ID has been incorporated at the user end. The question then becomes, is Novell going to run the biometric system, or will it be Wintel? Although Windows 2000 is late, Intel is definitely showing an interest lately.
