Roadway Express Takes Export Documents to the Next Level on the Web
AKRON, Ohio--(AutomotiveWire)--Aug. 26, 1999--Roadway Express, Inc. (Nasdaq:ROAD) keeps making it easier and easier to do business with NAFTA countries. It began ten years ago, when the motor carrier developed E-Z EXPORT(R), a single document that combines the basic international documentation required to ship between the U.S. and Mexico and the U.S. and Canada, into one easy-to-complete form.
In August of this year, the concept was taken a step further by putting E-Z EXPORT on the Internet. "We are the first LTL carrier to offer shippers the ability to complete customs documentation online," said Bob Carr, vice president-international for Roadway. "This is not a form that shippers must first print, then complete by hand. Completing E-Z EXPORT online simplifies the shipping process. This process puts us one step closer to a paperless environment."

Unlike other online processes, E-Z EXPORT is interactive. By accessing Roadway's Web site at www.roadway.com and clicking on the Mexico section, shippers can prepare a bill of lading and commercial invoice, (the documents required for most shipments moving from the U.S. into Mexico), in one step. These documents are simultaneously created when the form is completed. If desired, the user can store these files on their own computer as a .pdf file. This allows the user to file, print or fax the documents right from their desktop. Two copies of the documents will automatically be printed. One copy is created for the shipper and the other one is for the carrier to accompany the shipment.

If a shipper is not sure what to enter in the E-Z EXPORT fields, all he/she has to do is click on that area and a help screen appears, indicating what information is required. Potential delays are avoided because documentation is neat and legible. The documentation is always accessible, because it can be stored on the computer. If personal assistance is required, simply dial 1-800-INTL-REX to talk to an international customer service representative.

"We are committed to providing shippers the technology necessary to make shipping between the NAFTA countries as easy as it is shipping between the states," stated Vice President of Marketing for Roadway, William Michael. "We are constantly adapting to new market conditions, new technology and new business processses to optimize higher efficiency and productivity. Soon we will have interactive International Ocean and Canadian documentation online as well."

Along with convenient cross-border expedited freight movement, Roadway's online Mexico service site allows easy access to accurate, real-time shipment tracking and status reports, rate quotes and routing information, instant retrieval of proof of delivery documents, cargo claims status reports, and the ability to locate the nearest Roadway service center. For more shipping information, access the Company's International Hotline 1-800-INTL-REX (1-800-468-5739) in the U.S. or 1-800-874-2000 (in Mexico only).

Included on the Dow Jones Transportation Average, Roadway Express, Inc. (Nasdaq:ROAD) is a leading carrier of industrial goods with a variety of innovative services designed to meet customer needs. Providing seamless service between all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico with export services to 66 countries and six continents, the Company is dedicated to being the most reliable, responsive, efficient -- and safe -- carrier in the industry.
