Just a stage. There are three years for the whole program, and every year, you have to take an exam to see whether you pass or fail. There's no in-between for the tests. Clearing the first level opens many doors and adds a good dose of credibility for one's abilities to participate professionally in the investment management field.

I can now say I'm a Level Two Candidate for the CFA program.
