Frank: Never say never. "Windows CE is not a hard RTOS and never will be". You sound like the IBM executive who said circa 1987: "Windows (1.0) is not a real operating system and never will be". (OS/2 is the next great operating system). How soon we forget our recent history. As has been pointed out the most popular embedded OS in the world might still be (POD) plain old DOS. If Windows CE simply picks up the rather large crumbs left behind as 16-bit DOS fades then it will be a significant factor in the embedded market place. Let's face it many embedded systems have pretty simple requirements: is it on or off, is it stale or fresh, is it early or late, is it hot or cold, is it done or not done, is it high or low, fast or slow, is it full or empty? Does the smart coke machine at the local corner store need a hard realtime operating system? Lets see number of smart coke machines vs number of fly-by-wire jets..... Cheers, Dave
