Twit, Charles will have to tell you which securities will do what tomorrow, but as for Star Division being a big blow to the bottom line, I tend not to think so. First, it probably wasn't history's most expensive acquisition (i.e. not remotely in the same ballpark as Forte). And while there certainly will be costs at first that will make the product lose money on its own, I think it remains to be seen whether SUNW will succeed in coming up with an attractive package for various target markets that will add to the bottom line in various ways.

Let me hasten to add two things I'm definitely not saying:

1. That the execution of this strategy is any kind of slam dunk; there are a million ways for them to screw it up.

2. That StarOffice won't be a cost center because the so-called "Open Source Community" will come in and do Sun's development and maintenance work for them. I'm awake enough to know that the Open Source myth is a naked emperor Madness-of-Crowds thing that is generally believed to be a lot more important than it is outside of Linux itself.

However, I believe it will turn out to be a really good move and I'll bet you Bill G. and minions are sweating it right this second.

Regards,
