The problem with 9/9/99 or even at 9:09 on that date is that some creative - if not too wise or forward thinking - application programmers used all nines in the date field to indicate "END OF JOB". Their foolish thoughts were that this date would never occur before the system were first re-written. Some didnt even think that much.

That is what makes the 9/9/99 different from 8/8/88 or 7/7/77.

I wouldn't pass this one off too quickly although most serious Y2K bug crushers have already been looking for this date issue for a long time. It just doesnt get the press that the New Years date gets.
