ANADIGICS ships over one million GaAs ICs for QUALCOMM'S CDMA 1900 PCS handsets
WARREN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1997-- Anadigics Inc today announced that it has shipped over one million GaAs ICs for use in PCS telephone handsets that support the 1900 MHz CDMA digital PCS standard.
These GaAs ICs are used in the transmitter of the CDMA telephone handset and consist of a highly efficient power amplifier and a driver amplifier to provide gain control. These driver and power amplifier ICs are used in handsets manufactured by QUALCOMM Personal Electronics, a joint venture of subsidiaries of Qualcomm Inc and Sony Corp , to support the rollout of CDMA PCS service by both PrimeCo and Sprint.
"QUALCOMM selected the ANADIGICS driver and power amplifier for our QPC-1900 CDMA digital PCS phone to meet the demands for large-scale roll-outs across the country," said Don Schrock, Vice President and General Manager of the ASIC Products Group for QUALCOMM. "Our partnership with ANADIGICS proved to be instrumental in supporting the successful launches of our PCS customers, including PrimeCo and Sprint. ANADIGICS met our accelerated ramp-up and supplied more than 1 million parts in only four months, demonstrating their high volume leadership in the CDMA marketplace."
"ANADIGICS has been selected as a prime supplier in support of future generations of QUALCOMM CDMA digital PCS single and dual band phones," Schrock said.
Ronald Rosenzweig, President and Chief Executive Officer of ANADIGICS, said, "Our CDMA 1900 transmitter chip set consisting of a driver and power amplifier were our first products used in PCS applications, and also our first products that served the CDMA standard. We are pleased to have teamed with QUALCOMM in helping to launch CDMA PCS service in the United States. We expect that CDMA will continue to be one of the three major global digital standards and one that ANADIGICS will continue to support in the future."
