Hyundai starts mass output of ultra-fast 64-meg DRAM

Aug 31, 1999 - Hyundai Electronics Industries has started mass production of the industry's fastest memory chip, designed for graphics-intense applications, the company announced Monday.

The company's 64-megabit synchronous dynamic random access memory chip is manufactured using 0.22-micron technology and has an access speed of 200 megahertz, the fastest ever developed in the world.

Hyundai expects to sell 50 million units worth 100 million won (US$85 million) by the end of this year. The company intends to produce 200 million units next year.

With demand for 64-meg synchronous DRAM already exceeding supply, the company expects to fetch more than the US$12 to US$14 per piece that 64-meg DRAM is going for now.
