Let's just make shorting illegal. While you're at it- lets make selling any stocks illegal, too. Then the market can only go up, and we'll all be rich.

Oh wait, that's been tried before. As I remember, indonesia tried it, and their entire economy collapsed. Riots in the street, government fell apart, that sort of thing.
