Another education issue: The front page of today's on-line NY Times has an article about teacher shortages. Do any believe, as I do, that shortages might disappear quickly, if the teaching establishment allowed the hiring of those with the knowledge in addition to those with the credential? Hey, if that's good enough for Columbia and Sophie N., why not P.S. 007? Parents; forgive black and white tone of question, please -- would you prefer your child to be taught geometry by someone with a math degree (or even a crusty old civil engineer) or someone who spent four or five years learning to impersonate Barney and half the cast of Sesame Street?
