Scott was just interviewed on CNBC. When asked if this was to compete with Microsoft he said "Who"? He made it clear that Star Office plays into Sun's strategy of selling large servers. The Star Office serves as a productivity tool that will be available to firms that want wordprocessing, spreadsheets, etc. provided as a service, just as you may want call waiting, speed dialing etc. on you phone. The strategy is that one option is a Star Office portal available on your desktop or NC for such services. They will charge for maintaining the service and improve revenues by selling "big iron".
