[JPC Pieces]
More compitiion for Amati's Allegro Access Concentrator?
Has this part of the JPC contract already been awarded?
from the following:

"To achieve our goal of supplying full end-to-end ATM solutions, as specified by the Joint Procurement Consortium for residential and SOHO data services, for example, we needed that final, important CPE end-user piece to complete our offering," explained Lonnie Martin, president of ADC Telecommunications' Network Services Division.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1997--

Strategic alliance enhances ADC's Cellworx(TM) product family;
agreement structured to promote interoperability among manufacturers
ADC Telecommunications, Inc., and Efficient Networks, Inc.,
announced today the signing of a strategic alliance that leverages
Efficient Networks' ATM solutions to extend ADC's Cellworx family of
carrier-grade transport and network access solutions to encompass
both the LAN and power user markets, giving ADC a comprehensive,
end-to-end network offering.
Efficient Networks is a leader in the ATM-to-the-desktop market,
and it is known for providing simplified user interfaces and superior
software stacks that reduce limitations and throughput bottlenecks
inherent in system architectures. Coupled with ADC's carrier-grade
access/transport elements, Efficient Networks' hardware and software
products for the endstation enable service providers to offer
ATM-based network access to residential and small office/home office
(SOHO) users.
Taking into consideration the interoperability issues of the xDSL
market, the strategic alliance's non-exclusive structure promotes
multiple vendor solutions. Service providers that select the
ADC/Efficient Networks ATM desktop solution will be able to integrate
network components from other vendors, if desired.
"Efficient Networks, with its impressive track record of PC and
workstation interoperability and software expertise, provides that
piece. Service providers will now have the complete ATM solution for
residential and SOHO data services applications."
"This partnership with ADC allows us to expand our presence and
play in new markets such as xDSL, while promoting industry-wide
interoperability," said Mark Floyd, president and CEO of Efficient
Networks. "ADC's substantial experience and relationships with major
carriers worldwide opens doors for providing our end-user platforms
to extend end-to-end ATM-based network access to the individual
desktop."
The cooperation between ADC and Efficient Networks initially will
yield a set of CPE end-user products, including peripheral-component
interconnect (PCI) and industry standard architecture (ISA) bus
adapter cards and network modems, targeted toward delivering
high-speed ATM data transmission to individuals and small businesses
via asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) and high bit-rate
digital subscriber line (HDSL) technologies.
Discrete multitone technology (DMT)-based ADSL versions of the
products will be released first in order to meet the Joint
Procurement Consortium (JPC) requirement for a digital subscriber
line access multiplexer (DSLAM) product and compatible customer
premises equipment. HDSL versions of the ADC and Efficient Networks
products will follow. Adapter cards and modems will be introduced
separately, starting in the fourth quarter of this year. The
ADC/Efficient Networks products will be available for beta testing as
a complete end-to-end solution in January 1998 as part of ADC's
Cellworx access and transport product family.
Efficient Networks, Inc. is a leading developer, manufacturer
and marketer of high-speed networking solutions for the endstation
and embedded systems, including adapters, software and management.
As a recognized leader in ATM technology, Efficient Networks is a
principal member of the ATM Forum and the ADSL Forum. Efficient's
World Wide Web home page is www.efficient.com.
ADC Telecommunications, Inc. is a leading supplier of
transmission and networking systems used to deliver voice, data and
video services. The company holds a preeminent market position in
physical connectivity products for wireless, fiber-optic,
twisted-pair and coaxial networks. Revenues for fiscal year 1996
were $828 million. More information about ADC Telecommunications and
its business units, products and technologies, is available at its
