What my wife and I call "execu- house" became pretty common in the last ten years, and the whole idea is to make a large house affordable by cutting down the lot size and situating it in less desirable locations, such as the artery you mention. I know of a five bedroom, 2 and a half bath, cathedral window, master bedroom suite with jacuzzi, two car garage, 3000 square feet house that went for $240 thousand about 8 years ago, and probably is not much more now, since the housing market hit the skids and is just beginning to pick up. However, the lot is tiny in proportion to the house; it is in a neighborhood where "execu- houses" are crowded in; the development is on the less desirable side of Annapolis, and the pace of development has exceeded infrastructure improvements, so that there are inadequate roads during the early rush hours; and the developers did things like leave off a deck that clearly belonged to complete the house, so that it cost extra to put on. Comparable houses on better proportioned lots, with all amenities, and in better locations, were running for $350 to $450 thousand at the time.... |
