Shomiti Systems To Introduce New Quality of Service Voice Over IP Product
August 31, 1999
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation --
Shomiti's "Multi-QoS" To Measure and Meter Multimedia
Streams on 10/100/1000 Networks
Shomiti Systems, the technology leader in the distributed analysis, testing, and monitoring of mission-critical 10/100/1000 Ethernet networks, today introduced their new VOIP product, Multi-QoS, giving companies the ability to analyze voice traffic over Ethernet-based IP networks while validating QoS parameters presented by PSTN/IP Gateways, IP switches, and IPBXs. Multi-QoS is targeted at carriers, equipment manufacturers and enterprise customers to help them analyze their networks to ensure the peak performance of their real-time multi-media applications.
Multi-QoS, is a plug-in application to Shomiti's Surveyor software, Surveyor 3.0. This plug-in is the first of its kind to capture and decode the complete H.323 family of protocols and provides unrivaled detail and accuracy for measuring and metering multi-media (voice, video, data) streams on 10/100/1000 Ethernet networks. Multi-QoS provides the tools necessary to test and validate IP networks that carry voice.
"With the advent of multimedia on IP networks, it is imperative to know what to measure, how to measure it, and what sensitivity of each measurement is to QoS for each network segment, call and channel," said President and CEO Bill Shaw. "With our new product Multi-QoS, we give Network Administrators the tool to effectively provision their network and service their customers. "
Quality of Service is a major challenge for Voice over IP deployment, so it is very important to present measurable, quantitative parameters of Voice over IP transmission quality. Leveraged by the existing full-line rate capture of Shomiti hardware, Multi-QoS, the plug-in module for Surveyor 3.0 turns a general-purpose protocol analyzer into an effective tool to measure Quality of Service, addressing one of the most critical issues in converging Datacom and Telecom industries.
Product pricing for the Multi-QoS plug-in maintains Shomiti's reputation as the industry's price/performance leader with costs ranging between $3,000 and $4,000. Complete product pricing will be announced in late September.
Shomiti will demonstrate its Multi-QoS product at NetWorld +Interop's Voice Over IP Day conference Sept. 16, 1999 in Atlanta, GA where Shomiti is also a major sponsor. The Voice Over IP Day conference is a unique, one-day program sponsored by NetWorld + Interop which focuses on the knowledge and the tools needed to successfully integrate Data and Voice traffic over the same infrastructure. Slated for beta testing the end of August, and first customer delivery in late September, this new product continues Shomiti's technology leadership in the complete monitoring and analysis of distributed, heterogeneous Ethernet networks.
