I keep trying to make the point to rural pals like Ish that there is plenty of unbuilt up stuff in the area. I know the world is not crowded, it is just that I prefer it that way....I grew up in Marlow Heights, Maryland, a contiguous suburb in Prince George's County, now predominantly black, then well integrated. The density was approximately the same as the city's. When I first lived in Annapolis, I lived downtown, and therefore it was not so bad. When I moved out to the suburbs of Annapolis (10 minutes from the Naval Academy), I got a little disoriented, but I got used to it. I still look forward to moving back to the city....Now, I can take the country up to a point. I like Skyline Drive, for example. But there is well- cultivated countryside, with many small towns, between Washington and the mountains, and the drive has a "parkland" quality. The Shenandoah valley is pleasant too, although I do start to get a little nervous. It takes a more desolate area to make me really freaky, though, the kind of place where the towns are few and far between, or it is more forest than farmland...
