I sort of like Forbes, esp. since Bush wants Gun Control.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) - Republican presidential candidate Steve
Forbes is using the Russian international money laundering scandal as a
point of attack against Vice President Al Gore, who is running for the
Democratic presidential nod.

In a 60-second radio ad running in upstate New York, where President
Clinton is vacationing, the Forbes campaign says Gore, who sits on a
commission that oversees U.S.-Russian relations, owes an apology to
Americans and Russians for being ''out of the loop'' about the alleged
scam involving New York banks and International Monetary Fund loans.

The ad also says Forbes wants Treasury Secretary Larry Summers to
apologize in the wake of the scandal. Summers was the Treasury
Department's second-in-command under Robert Rubin, who left the top post
in July after several years in charge.

U.S. authorities are investigating whether Russian mobsters diverted
as much as $15 billion in funds, including IMF aid, out of Russia
through the Bank of New York, Republic National Bank and U.S. financial
institutions.

None of the banks have been charged with crimes, and the IMF has said
none of its funds were caught in the alleged money laundering.

A transcript of the ad on Forbes's official campaign Web site says he
wants the Clinton administration to ''immediately block all foreign aid
to Russia until their workers are paid and root out the corruption of Russia's robber barons.''
