The myth is that passing some laws will prevent stupid and evil people from doing stupid and evil things with guns. The NRA has been absolutely vilified in the press, I doubt very seriously whether anyone really knows what their positions and or goals truly are. I am always skeptical when I see the press so single mindedly biased against any particular group. The bias in the media as it relates to the entire gun issue has been so slanted it's pathetic.
Russia has one of the strongest gun control societies on earth, yet also has one the highest levels of violent use of guns. Australia passed strong gun control regulations about two years ago and consequently witnessed a dramatic increase in gun violence. Nearly every house in Switzerland owns a weapon, yet has one of the lowest level of violence. On the other side of the coin, many of the Asian societies like Japan, and Korea have strong gun control regulations, yet very low levels of violence, the same holds true for Britain, France and many other European countries.
The gun control issue is no where near as simple as the press likes to paint it. Namely, pass a few laws and gun violence disappears. It amazes me to see so many people by into this pop-culture sound bite way of thinking. Gun violence is a symptom of a systemic problem in our society. A problem encompassing many elements related to lack of good parenting, law enforcement, criminal justice, a steady diet of violence in movies, television, video games and the hesitation of school systems to to teach moral rights and wrongs.
Contrary to the hysteria painted by the recent shootings, most schools in America are one of the safest public places for kids. The press just used the horrible shooting incidents to promote their agenda. That being the ultimate repeal of the second amendment.
