MGI Software Showcases Children's Commentary on the Next Millennium millennium.mgisoft.com Interactive Web-Site Goes Live
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--
"The new millennium will probably have the technology to reassemble the atoms in the ozone layer fast enough to keep life on this planet for another millennium or two." S. Sullivan, 11 years old
"I think that everything is going to happen over again. Like Adam and Eve and the hippies." Stephanie 12
Extraterrestrial colonization, artificial intelligence, and environmental improvements are just some of the breakthroughs we have to look forward to in the next millennium according to children aged 5 to 15 who have made submissions to the MGI Millennium Project. Submissions are posted at the Millennium Project web site (http//:millennium.mgisoft.com), launched today as a platform for children to voice their dreams, hopes, and predictions for the next Millennium. Now live, the site allows children from all over the world to post photos along with their millennium commentary as well as offering visitors a very compelling window into the minds of future leaders of society. To kick start the launch; MGI Software partnered with elementary schools, computer camps, and science centers across the United States and Canada.
The site is open for submissions from all children between the ages of 5 and 15 and will remain open until December 31st of this year. Each week, a submission will be selected as a "Prediction of the Week" and showcased on the main site page. Each winner will receive a complimentary copy of MGI Software's new PC photography software, MGI PhotoSuite III. After December 31st, no further submissions will be accepted, and the site will be "frozen," remaining on display until April 2000. MGI Software plans to preserve the site as an electronic time capsule and reopen it in 10 years time.
Children can contribute to the site by sending an original photo or graphic, along with name, age, city, and email address, with a prediction of 100 words or less to millennium@mgisoft.com, or by clicking on a special submission link on the web-site, and filling out the electronic form. Children who do not have Internet access can submit by mail to MGI Corporate Offices in Toronto. Teachers who want their school represented on the site should call MGI at 905.707.4720 for information on how to participate.
"Our participation in MGI's Millennium Project was a very rewarding exercise," said Sue McDonald, 4th grade teacher, Argonne Elementary, San Francisco California. "Our students took this as an opportunity to share very positive ideas about what they want for the future."
"MGI is proud to be able to provide a worldwide platform for children to share what they are thinking and feeling about the millennium," said Anthony DeCristafaro, president and CEO, MGI Software. "They bring a fresh and unique perspective. This will be an interesting experience for the participants, and a source of reflection for us all, when we reopen the capsule in 10 years time."
