twister,

Well, whaddaya know?? Just when I thought you had
thrown in the towel.... "Here comes the twister..."
Good to see you back in action.

Well, M$FT isn't down for the count yet, they're on the
ropes and SUNW is ready to start hammering away. This
foray into commoditizing productivity applications
is one piece of a brilliant strategy by SUNW to neutralize
M$FT's dominance of the retail computing market, while
changing the mindset of the computing public to get
comfortable with thin clients.

You're right, SUNW won't make money selling software.
They make friends and enhance their reputation selling
software (or giving it away) and they use that to leverage
the sale of hardware.

Making big money selling software is difficult to do, I think
for a number of reasons. Making money selling hardware isn't
that easy, either. The real money is in selling solutions.
The beauty of SUNW's marketing strategy is just beginning
to unfold. M$FT will be able to milk its cash cow for a little
while longer, but this industry moves quickly and takes no
prisoners.

cheers,

cherylw
