ATI Announces ATI-Video Wonder(TM) Add-In Board for Frame-Accurate Video Editing, Time-Shifting, Turning the PC Into A Digital VCR
TV tuning, instant replay, still and video capture makes this the ultimate video add-in board for $199

TORONTO, Aug. 30 /CNW-PRN/ - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) today announced the ATI-Video Wonder(TM) add-in-board, the ultimate video upgrade for any graphics card with video overlay, that turns the PC into a digital VCR. ATI-Video Wonder provides digital video editing, TV tuning, instant replay and still and video capture. The ATI-Video Wonder also enables time-shifting, where viewers can scroll back TV broadcasts to view missed segments, then scroll ahead to ''catch up'' to the program in progress.

''This is the ultimate video upgrade for the PC,'' said Alan McCann, Director of the Visual Products Group, ATI. ''ATI has been the leader in effectively converging the intelligence and power of the PC with the massive content of TV. Now we have gone the logical step further to converge the features and functions of the VCR, bringing the benefits of digital technology to PC video enthusiasts. It's what those users who have tons of family videos have been waiting for.''

The ATI-Video Wonder, which is installed easily into a PCI slot, provides all the features and functionality of a VCR. A high quality TV tuner means that TV broadcasts can be recorded to the hard drive for later playback. Programs can be recorded with one easy click of a button and with video compression technology, the ATI-Video Wonder can record over two hours of programming and store in under 3 Gigabytes of free hard drive space.

The ATI-Video Wonder is ideal not only for video capture, to transfer home videos to digital file, for example, but also for still capture, for incorporating stills into videos or other uses.

Frame-accurate editing for that personalized, professional look in video
editing
The ATI-Video Wonder's frame-accurate video editing capabilities feature

simultaneous MPEG-2 encoding and decoding through the use of C-Cube's
DVxplore(TM) chip. Frame-accurate MPEG-2 editing is required for real time
transitional effects during editing and smooth transitions between edited
scenes. Current solutions require transitional scenes to be rendered, causing
the user to wait for a transitional scene to appear and thus hindering the
editing process. The (US) $199 SRP (Suggested Retail Price) ATI/C-Cube
solution replaces the need to buy a second VCR and video editing consoles
which can cost thousands of dollars.
For watching TV, the ATI-Video Wonder provides exclusive features not usually available in the living room - such as Instant Replay, Time Shifting and DVD playback, for systems equipped with DVD ROM drives.

Time shifting means viewers can back up a program, catch what was missed,
then catch up
The Time Shifting feature, also enabled through C-Cube's DVxplore chip, is

the answer for TV viewers who inevitably are called away from the TV at the
wrong time. In Time Shifting mode, ATI-Video Wonder constantly records live
broadcasts, where viewers can return to the TV program, scroll back, watch
missed portions and scroll forward to catch up to ''real time.'' During
playback, ATI-Video Wonder also provides a skip button that can be set to
automatically skip ahead 30, 60 or 90 seconds. The Instant Replay feature can
be set to provide instant playback of up to one minute, ideal for sports
viewing.
''Timeshifting and MPEG-2 video editing are compelling new applications for PC users and videophiles alike, establishing a new standard for digital video on the PC,'' said Tim Vehling, director of marketing for C-Cube's PC/CODEC division (NASDAQ:CUBE - news). ''The ATI-Video Wonder allows users to take full advantage of the advanced capabilities of our single-chip MPEG-2 CODEC.''

Bundled with Ulead's Video Studio

Bundled with the ATI-Video Wonder is Ulead System's industry-leading MPEG and still photo editing software, Video Studio. All drivers for the ATI-Video Wonder are Microsoft compliant, adhering to the Windows Driver Model protocol.
