Re what is extremist...
I know little about this subject, so shouldn't attempt a reply. I tend to believe that the Second Amendment, while it may allow certain limitations and regulations, does give Americans the right to have guns.
But my impression is that the NRA supports the sale of those automatic weapons that spit out round after round of bullets in seconds, often so lethally. They don't seem like either hunting or sports or home-protection weapons, more just like killing machines; and it seems to me that not cooperating to the fullest in an attempt to severely limit those weapons, in particular, seems extreme to many Americans.
On the other hand, whenever I hear the NRA spokespersons ask, "But why make new laws when the old ones aren't being enforced?" I think they have a good point.
I have agreed with Steven's positions on gun control in the past, but know too little about the subject to have interjected here, I admit.
I do have a good book on the Constitution I got mostly out of an interest in reading about the history of the Second Amendment, but naturally haven't opened it yet. I think I'm the only one I know personally who think Americans are guaranteed the right to own guns.
Whatever you say, I won't answer, because i have just exhausted my views on the subject. |
