In such cases, perhaps old Goldwater (to think I should ever quote Goldwater!) was right when he said: "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice."

At the risk of being flamed to death, I have always thought that Barry Goldwater was much maligned during that presidential campaign. I thought I had kept up with his activities, but when he died last year, there was a retrospective of his life on one of the television programs and even I was stunned by the difference between the perceptions and the man himself and how he lived his life.
