Stock tips from a market insider

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Next time you're looking for an investment strategy, head to the market. The supermarket, that is.

Here's the scene: Two gentlemen stocking the shelves at the local organic food store are discussing investment and the Federal Reserve.

Yours truly, searching for the perfect loaf, begins to eavesdrop. Too intrigued to stay quiet and obviously spending too much time with the bread, I introduce myself.

The first gentleman says he's merely trying to get more information about the second guy's $1.2 million (really??!!) portfolio. Now I'm super-interested. He's closer to retirement than I am. Where is this grocery-expert-turned-trader putting his money?

Software stocks. He thinks they're undervalued and could have a 50 to 100 percent gain. Specifically: Computer Associates (CA: news, msgs) and Oracle (ORCL: news, msgs). Timeframe? Six to 9 months. And no, he doesn't believe that constitutes long term. But by the look he gave me I sincerely regretted asking.

Still, you heard it here first: software stocks.
