CANADIAN DIAMONDS
Few people could have imagined even a decade or two ago that diamonds lie hidden beneath the barren, frozen tundra and the thousands of lakes that form Canada's Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Yet today, that vast northern landscape stretching from Canada's western provinces to the Arctic Circle is destined to become one of the most prolific diamond producing regions in the world.
From a discovery near Lac de Gras in 1991, which led to one of the largest staking rushes in Canadian mining history, Canadian exploration companies and their overseas partners have conducted aggressive exploration and development programs which have culminated in the construction of the first of many diamond mines, with diamond production commencing in late 1998. Canadian diamonds bring a whole new dimension not only to the Canadian mining industry but the world diamond industry. Canadian diamonds are here and they are a reality.
Tahera's Strategy
Tahera is focussed on establishing itself as a significant commercial producer of gem and near gem quality diamonds for the Canadian and world markets.
The key elements of Tahera's strategy to accomplish this objective are as follows:
to commence commercial production as quickly as possible by - conducting a feasibility study on developing a diamond mine based on the Jericho Kimberlite Pipe; and - pursuing low cost alternatives for commercial production, such as utilizing existing mining infrastructure; to complete the evaluation of the Contwoyto-1 Pipe; to contine an exploration program on the Jericho Properties that will focus on finding additional kimberlites and obtaining additional information on the kimberlites already discovered; to promote the existing relationships with major players in the Canadian diamond mining industry and leverage off the financial resources and expertise of these entities; to utilize the extensive experience of Tahera's management team, and to conserve the Company's financial resources by restricting its expenditures on non-core properties to the amounts necessary to maintain its interest in such properties.
1997 - 1999 HIGHLIGHTS
Initiated feasibility study on Jericho Diamond Project. Two new kimberlites discovered on joint venture properties during 1999. Amalgamation of Lytton Minerals Limited and New Indigo Resources Inc. to create Tahera Corporation. New Senior Management and Board of Directors recruited. Discovery of Contwoyto-1 diamondiferous kimberlite in the fall of 1998. Acquisition of diamond-mineral laboratory, data management systems, exploration assets and other facilities as part of a plan to develop Tahera as an integrated diamond exploration and development company. Joint Venture Agreement with Kennecott Canada ensures exploration and development of the Company's interests in the ICE, Rocking Horse and Hood River claim areas. Continued exploration program on the Jericho Project, including mini-bulk sampling of JD/OD-3 kimberlite pipe. Pre-feasibility study initiated for the development of the Jericho Project. Diamonds from JD/OD-1 pipe returned an average value of US$59.61 per carat (CSO valuation). Underground bulk sample extracted from JD/OD-1 pipe at the Jericho Project yields 10,539 carats of diamonds from 9,400 tonnes treated at Tahera's diamond pilot plant located at the Lupin Gold Mine.""
