I certainly agree with that. It is also not comforting if you live in the U.S. and have a Japanese partner, customer, supplier or vendor. The global trade implications are enormous.

It confirms my suspicion that we can all be snug and warm in our beds with plenty of hot water for our showers the morning of 01/01/00 and y2k could still be a disaster that will wreck careers, families, portfolios etc...

Fielder's comments leave me wondering:

How many more unaddressed remediation issues like this are out there at this late stage of the game?

and

How is it that reporting consultancies such as Gartner Group and Cap Gemini missed this? or failed to recognize it as significant? and failed to warn?

(So much for self-reporting and those that are all to happy to believe those reports.)
