Unfortunately, Mr. Fielder is the CEO of a company that seeks to make money from remediating Y2K related PC problems. While that certainly doesn't negate the veracity of his findings or observations, it must be categorized as having the potential for bias.

However, he provides a great initial point of focus whereupon other parties can objectively explore the situation and confirm, or refute his findings.

I'm trying to get in contact with my associate who deals with Japanese Y2K coordinators in order to pass this information on for further exploration, but alas, due to the flurry of diplomatic activities going in preparation for the APEC summit in New Zealand later this month, they are incommunicado.

But Fielder's report, if accurate, is VERY DISCONCERTING to me and a reflection of the difficulties that lie ahead for Japan.

Fortunately, PC Y2K issues are relatively simple to resolve.. Either replace the machine, or update the BIOS.
