Buckle your seatbelts over your rats...

dailynews.yahoo.com

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A woman who found a rat sitting on her lap during an Air New Zealand flight will be offered
compensation by the airline, the New Zealand Press Association reported Wednesday.

Flight crew first spotted the rodent after the Boeing 767-300 left Los Angeles bound for Auckland, but it eluded capture by
hiding in the rear of the aircraft.

Air New Zealand spokesman Cameron Hill told NZPA that ''later in the flight a passenger in business class felt something on
her right leg, lifted her blanket and found the rat on her knees.''

Another search failed to find the rat but it was subsequently spotted running around the cabin as the plane flew between
Papeete, Tahiti, and Auckland.

The rat eluded quarantine officials during a search of hand baggage after the plane had landed in Auckland Tuesday morning.
The plane was quarantined and fumigated for 24 hours.

Hill told NZPA ''we deeply regret the distress caused to passengers and will be attempting to contact those most directly
affected to offer compensation.''
