When they raised the fee to $5.95/month, he couldn't justify the cost since it was cheaper for him to use the USPS. He dropped the service.

Did your engineer friend factor in his time? I save at least 40 minutes per month vs. paper, and that number will increase when I no longer have to keep track of paper bills and can get them electronically.
