If you are interested in Metro DWDM, you will probably want to read this article from fiber optics online. The author examines why metro DWDM has not caught on the way long haul DWDM has. Apparently the main barrier is cost because an OC-48 SONET ring is cheaper to deploy. Look for IXCs to deploy this product rather than local carriers. Case in point is GST deploying a DWDM ring to Seattle - scheduled to
operational in November.
