jlallen, I think your children may be better off in terms of understanding and tolerance than many a teacher, especially elementary school. But sadly, it won't work to rely on parents alone. Many of your kids' fellow students most probably are even lagging far behind their teachers. Your kids may understand that tolerance and approval are two different pairs of shoes. Many won't, and for many, a trained teacher helps more than one that is lost without words that were given to him. School teachers can never be excellent - they are under too high pressure to speak average positions. Of course, you will say, this is the reason for me and my wife to teach values at home. So why send your children to school at all? School cannot provide all advantages to your children; some of the disadvantages of the system will likely hit your children as well as others in other cases. Regards, MNI.
