Michelle,

Surprisingly, there is no absolute standard for ticker symbology.

Reuters has taken a crack at it with something called RIC's - I forget what that stands for - Reuters I-Something Code. :) With RICs you can actually specify company/index and the exchange. For example, IBM.N is the quote for IBM from the NYSE, but IBM.MW is the quote for IBM from the Chicago exchange (MW stands for Midwest, I think), and IBM.L is the quote for IBM from the London exchange.

The only site that I know of that uses RICs on the Web is the Reuters.com site and the Reuters MoneyNet site.

For the rest of us, it's a free for all. :)

Bryan
